SUPER L-ARGININE™
SUPER L-ARGININE™
L-arginine is an amino acid. Proteins are built from amino acids, which are divided into essential and non-essential categories. The body makes nonessential amino acids, but essential amino acids cannot be made by the body. Dietary intake is the only way to provide essential amino acids. [1]
L-arginine is required for the production of nitric oxide, a molecule that's responsible for regulating blood flow, mitochondrial function, and cell communication. Additionally, it is required for the health and function of your immune system as a precursor to other amino acids, including glutamate, proline, and creatine. [2]
T-cells, which are white blood cells that play a vital role in immunity, are developed from arginine. Since L-arginine plays so many important roles in the body, a deficiency in this amino acid can disrupt organ and cellular function and cause serious adverse health outcomes.
L-arginine can be produced in several ways. You can synthesize citrulline from the amino acid citrulline by breaking down body proteins, or you can obtain it from dietary protein intake. There is a high concentration of it in certain protein-rich foods, such as meat, poultry, dairy products, nuts, soy products, and fish. L-arginine is reported to be consumed in foods in amounts ranging from 4 to 6 grams. [3]
Support Enhanced Performance for Individuals
There is evidence that L-arginine supplements may enhance exercise performance by increasing nitric oxide in the body, which improves blood flow to the muscles and oxygenation. [4]
In a 2017 randomized study, 2 grams of L-arginine daily for 45 days significantly improved sports performance versus placebo in 56 male soccer players. [5]
Enhancing protein synthesis and tissue repair is one way that L-arginine can improve sports performance. L-arginine also increases muscular power, endurance, and blood flow. Resistance training subjects may find it useful. [6]
Blood Pressure Support and Regulation
Those with high blood pressure may benefit from L-arginine supplements. L-arginine supplements have been shown to lower both systolic (the top number) and diastolic (the bottom number) blood pressure.
The amino acid L-arginine is required for the production of nitric oxide, which is necessary for relaxing blood vessels and regulating blood pressure. [7]
Supports Fat Loss
Modulation of genes involved in fat metabolism is supported by arginine. L-arginine inhibits fat deposition by favoring the metabolism of fats to form muscle mass. As a result, fat is prevented from accumulating and muscle mass is increased. In the white adipose tissue and skeletal muscles, it acts by modulating lipid metabolizing genes.
There are two types of fat in the body: white fat and brown fat. Brown fat burns calories while white fat accumulates them. By taking L-arginine, you can improve your body's metabolism and prevent white fat. Additionally, it increases brown fat production, which burns more calories. It boosts the body's metabolism and helps treat obesity. [8]
Keeping insulin and glucose levels balanced prevents carbohydrates from being stored as fat. L-arginine supplements improve insulin action, especially in high-fat diets. L-arginine increases the sensitivity of insulin, according to research. A healthy metabolism of carbohydrates is promoted by a balanced blood sugar level. An additional study that looked at the effects of l-arginine supplements on a blood clotting disorder reported an increase in insulin sensitivity [9]
Supports Healthy Blood Sugar
L-arginine may benefit diabetics by improving glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity, according to research.
Nitric oxide is produced by L-arginine. In addition to its roles in cellular function and insulin action, nitric oxide is also involved in the process of transporting glucose from the blood into the cells for use as energy. By increasing the availability of nitric oxide, your body may be able to secrete insulin more effectively and use sugar more efficiently. [10]
L-Citrulline Supports L-arginine in Nitric Oxide Production
In the body, citrulline exerts several significant effects. One of these is the Vasodilation. Vasodilation is the widening of arteries or veins. Lower blood pressure and increased blood flow are associated with it. Citrulline is converted to another amino acid called arginine after consumption, thus why it makes sense to take it with regular L-arginine. [11]
Once citrulline is converted into the amino acid arginine it is then converted into a molecule called nitric oxide, which relaxes the smooth muscle cells that constrict blood vessels, thus causing vasodilation.
Citrulline may increase arginine levels in the body more than arginine itself, thus having a joint product makes sense scientifically. The body processes and absorbs citrulline and arginine differently. Citrulline may improve exercise performance via the increase in nitric oxide and blood flow. [12]
Despite not being an amino acid used directly to build proteins, citrulline is known to boost protein synthesis by stimulating an important signaling pathway for building muscles. Citrulline may also reduce the liver's ability to absorb certain amino acids and prevent their breakdown
Citrulline appears to increase oxygen levels in muscle tissue. This means that, although the amino acid may not increase oxygen use by the body as a whole, it could increase oxygen use by exercising muscles. As a result, exercise performance may be enhanced.
It has been demonstrated that taking citrulline supplements can enhance performance in cycling. In a study, cyclists taking citrulline were able to ride for 12% longer before exhaustion than those taking a placebo. [13]
These supplements can also improve power output while cycling. That's the amount of force that can be generated in a short period of time. This supplement may benefit oxygen usage in muscles, thereby improving endurance.
L-Citrulline and Arginine Improvements to Exercise
The amino acid citrulline makes your body more capable of performing aerobic and anaerobic exercises. Taking L-citrulline increases the production of ATP (an energy production molecule) and the recycling of bicarbonates. ATP improves exercise performance, and recycling bicarbonates prevents your muscles from becoming acidic and fatigued. [14]
Taking L-citrulline increases ATP production through both the creatine phosphate and oxidative pathways, which is why it can enhance your performance during both explosive and endurance activities.
Citrulline can also improve exercise performance by increasing the availability of amino acids in your blood. It supports a reduction in the amount of ammonia your body produces while exercising. [15]
